A Downsville man has died after being ejected from his vehicle in a Union Parish crash.
Louisiana State Police Troop F Troopers responded to the crash about 9:30 a.m. Monday on Louisiana 15 near mile post 158.
The investigation revealed that a 1998 Jeep Grand Cherokee was southbound on Louisiana 15 when it began to pass a 1996 Jeep Grand Cherokee in a no passing zone and a curve, a news release from Trooper Mark Dennis states.
The driver of the 1998 Jeep then lost control of his vehicle in the curve and ran off the road to the right. The driver then over-corrected to the left, then back to the right, where the vehicle came to rest partially in the southbound lane of travel.
During the crash, the driver of the 1998 Jeep and his passenger were ejected from the vehicle.
The driver of the 1996 Jeep, still southbound on Louisiana 15 was unable to avoid hitting the 1998 Jeep and the ejected driver of that vehicle. After impact, the 1996 Jeep ran off the road to the left. The driver of that vehicle then over corrected to the right where the vehicle over-turned on its left side.
The driver of the 1998 Jeep, identified as 29-year-old Dennis Lowery Jr. of Downsville, was pronounced dead at the scene by the Union Parish Coroner’s Office. The ejected passenger was taken to LSU-Shreveport with serious injuries. The passenger has not been identified at this time.
The driver of the 1996 Jeep, identified as 52-year-old Susan Cox from Downsville, received minor injuries in the crash.
Impairment is unknown and routine toxicology tests are pending. The crash is still under investigation.
